Whiting Davis .. A tribute to beautiful jewelry and accessories

Egyptian revival jewelry at its best
Exotic Whiting and Davis Snake bracelet. VERY Egyptian revival
The brand's iconic snake is estimated to have made its first appearance in the late 1890s - a delicate bracelet crafted in sterling silver. Throughout the years, Whiting & Davis continued to design the snake motif into their fine and fashion jewelry with earrings, bracelets and necklaces. One of Whiting & Davis' most rare designs is a circa 1910, double-headed snake bracelet that had been hand enameled by the skilled craftsmen at the company.
Whiting  and Davis LARGE Baroque CUFF Bracelet
In 1903 when Edward Davis patented new technology to improve the hinged bracelet, using two hinges on each side so a woman could open and close with ease. The bracelet featured seamless hinges and a spring, rather than a clasp which was popular at the time.
Whiting DAVIS Silver mesh Purse
By 1896, Charles Whiting partnered with Edward Davis and the name Whiting & Davis was born. With the same drive that transformed metal mesh into fashion, Charles Whiting led the brand into the Twentieth Century - handbags introduced anywhere from 1896 to 1935 continue to be highly sought after styles today by collectors .
Since 1876, this company has made some of the most beautiful and exotic jewelry and accessories. You can own one and see the beauty when you go to my store HERE

Antique bracelet / silver Gothic lion bracelet / Medieval jewelry / gargoyle Lion / FLEUR DE LIS / wide Victorian Relief / statement jewelry Active

Chivalry is not dead my dear, because in this century, you don’t have to wait to have such a fabulous bracelet to be given to you. YOU can be captivated by the beauty and majesty of this old medieval bracelet, with the fierce lion to protect you, and with a click of the keyboard can own this antique piece that has charm and gallantry. Hand wrought and heavy metal ( not sure of the silver content) it is a quality piece that measures 2 ¼" wide. Notice the elaborate Fleur de lis and Victorian symbols that form these large and lovely links! It is 7 ¼" long and is not plated, so it has some content of silver ( I am not sure of how much because it is not marked). This weighs 62 grams and is in great condition. A true collectors piece. Silver has not been tested for content.

Diamonds are a girls best friend Especially THESE!

You all remember Lola our showgirl don't you? I have sold a few pieces from her estate on etsy before. Well this one was a token of gratitude from a high rolling gambler who adored our showgirl from Las Vegas. She lived in New York and traveled back and forth to her NY apt and in the midst met quite a lot of generous and unusual characters. This gentleman was an import exporter who adored her and took her to Monaco to gamble in Monte Carlo.. SHe was such good luck, he had one of the artisans in Monte Carlo make her this genuine diamond ring with the amount of millions she won him. Yes.. I said millions thus giving her this NINE diamond ring ( for nine MILLION) set in 14kt gold and silver. THe diamonds are hidden under small mountains of gold because he said she was a hidden treasure to him. ( diamonds hidden under gold.. see the connection?). Well he was quite the smoozer and she was up for the thoughtful, and a little bit gaudy gift.

The ring has a large top setting that measures almost as large as quarter ( a tad over 1") and it has tiny silver bead work all around it ( a few are missing). The ring is between an 8 1/2 and a 9 and is completely hand wrought. Many artisans set up shop in Monte carlo because when winners win.. they want to SPEND.... So this custom ring came to being at well over a few thousand dollars which was just a drop in the bucket to what he won. IT is the thought that counts ( and the private plane there and all the fabulous hotel rooms and clothes that help as well).

Not for the insecure or faint of heart!

Antique Kings throne chair for a child.. HOW cool it that????

This small chair measures only 3" tall and would hold the little royal one in your family. The little seat is 12" x 12". I think it is pretty old and as you can see by the dust, has been stored for years in a spare room. ( tassels are NOT included). The chair is a dark mahogany or walnut color. It is just the best piece for the little person who has EVERYTHING!>

Whiting and Davis Purse trivia

This is a vintage Whiting & Davis gold mesh purse with  Fancy frame and  original tag and mirror .

The early 1920-30's was a time when women were freeing up their hands and didn't have to wear gloves all the time. The purses would accentuate the beauty of unfettered fingers and hands and wrist, while accommodating all the necessary items so the woman could dance or have mad money. The woman would look extremely stylish. . I guess you could consider this a Necessaire because it could be used to hold the small necessities one needed when going out.

Whiting and Davis have been in existence since the late 1800's. What is really interesting that Elsa Schiaparelli actually designed purses for the Whiting and Davis. The mesh process was a really intriguing way to make the mesh look like scales. They were first firm to develop patents for the machines to make mesh in their own plants ( per a Brown university study)/. They were the first to make solder filled wire in making metal mesh. These were woven into many different patterns. A finished mesh purse might contain 100,000 links ( each soldered individually). When it was placed in an electric furnace, the solder melted and flowed, At first the purses were joined to their frames. Later the company introduced a spiral wire to join the purse to the frame. This method was called hanging up . A mesh to the edge was another whiting and davis innovation that gave a smooth silhouette and thereby added to artistry of the purse. Purses in the early 20's sterling and 14kt gold and plated metal ( according to 1995 Vintage purses at their best by lynell schwartz) . I think this was possibly pre-world war 11).

The purse has been hardly used. It has the original mirror, tag and stamping into the frame. The silk is peach colored and original with one small corner having a few spots ( see photo) . This purse measures 7 1/2" x 5" and the fancy etched chain measures 10" long. It is heavy and the mesh flows like silk when you move it. What a great piece for a wedding or an elegant evening out!   SOLD OUT TOO LATE :(

Antique Victorian Amber Ormolu Fancy Perfume. Inside you see the ormolu filigree case that holds a brass rose at the bottom. The  glass stopper is still intact and in very good condition . The perfume measures 9" tall and as you can see the glass is held in by tiny fancy prongs that create a crown shape around it. This has ornate metal work every where and it is quite stunning. This is a most unusual shape with 3 sides of amber glass.

Miniature Knight in shining armor

Vintage Knight armor Military pol zbroja husarska Miniature ON original stand

SOLD

This mIniature ( 9"tall) tin knight armor is marked pol zbroja husarska on the bottom. Over the course of the 16th century hussars in Transylvanian-Hungarian had become heavier in character: they had abandoned wooden shields and adopted plate metal body armour. When Stefan Bathory, a Transylvanian-Hungarian prince, was elected king of Poland in 1576 he reorganized the Polish-Lithuanian hussars of his Royal Guard along Hungarian lines, making them a heavy formation, equipped with a long lance as their main weapon. This is a vintage tourist piece that represented the armour of these days. THe helmet comes off and is the only thing that detaches from this. One side plate that covers the ear is missing its metal covering. This has a maltese cross medal in the center and fancy rivots.

Bohemian Fringe Necklace / statement necklace / rhinestone earrings / Hippie bib Choker / fringe drop necklace set

This vintage indian feather necklace cascades down 5 1/2" long from the expandable neck ring. The matching pierced earrings are 2 1/2" long. The pieces look to be handwrought out of nickel silver and they have patina and age to them which really gives this set character. The necklace will fit most any neck as it is comfortably expandable. This would have easily been worn when hippies were wearing earthy adornments.

The best jewelry glue ever

When it comes to glue that holds jewelry, I have to say that E600 is the simplest and most stable glue I have ever used.

WHY?
Because I am the kind of person that tries everything and believes no one until I see if for myself.

Are you  like that too? I love trying new things... Half the time they don't work though... So when I find a product I just love, I will tell everyone.

So what is so great about this glue with the strange name?

It gives you time to set your pieces together without having to worry about them being in the wrong spot and it  being permanent.

It hold well for many many years ( I have pieces that are over 15 years old and still holding strong.)

Your fingers don't stick together, it peels or washes off

No yellowing over time ( love THAT)

If you use a toothpick you can do even the smallest of places.

If you sand two metal pieces just a bit and attach them with it, it holds.

Rhinestones don't get yellow underneath and that is a real blessing!

VERY inexpensive (Takes me about a year to use a whole tube)

Dries clear ....

I once tested every glue I could get my hands on.. on an object .. It had all kinds of things stuck to it.
ten years later I found and and guess who was still holding strong?? E600!

So you can take my word for it or you can try it yourself, but take it from a jewelry repair person that has been doing this for many many moons... it works.

Vintage Statement bracelet / Gold wide cuff / brilliant rhinestone bracelet / designer jewelry / princess Amanda jewelry / costume cuff

Beyond stunning this brilliant and gorgeous wide ( almost 3") cuff bracelet will get the compliments coming. The photos are not even close to how fabulous this awesome bracelet it. The layering of the sparkling stones create this dimensional beauty that is beyond comprehension. It is 6" long with an additional 1" gap and is very sturdy. The attention to detail on this is something to behold. Made by Princess Amanda Borghese.
