It is said that the Greek Goddess of rainbow "The Iris", rides on the rainbow whilst wearing her multihued robes and spreads the message of love and hope; and it is the iris - the rainbow flower which on earth epitomizes the good news of the rainbow goddess amidst its shimmer and radiance.
The familiar symbol of the fleur-de-lis is actually a stylized drawing of the three-petaled iris flower. Painted on many battle flags in medieval times, it was a symbol of a powerful victory.
It is interesting to note that the iris part of the human eye, named for the rainbow goddess, represents the little piece of heaven that dwells in all of us. As a messenger of divine gods, Iris’ main duty was to carry the souls of departed women to the Elysian Fields. In tribute, Greek men planted irises on the graves of the women of their families.
