Snuffy Charlotte

SNuff trivia for the day:Queen Charlotte, the wife of King George III, had such a passion for snuff that she soon earned the nickname "Snuffy Charlotte."

Snuff became firmly enrooted as the tobacco product of choice among the aristocracy and followers of fashion.

It was seen as a far more refined habit than smoking, and was especially favoured in court. Royalty, both Kings and Queens, attended to their snuff habits with a passion, and carried specialised snuff accoutrements and even built dedicated rooms for storing their snuff.

Finding these little boxes sometimes becomes quite the treasure hunt!
I have many on my sites if you want to take a peek,

The Golden Goddess, Feeling a little DIVA lately?

I have always been fascinated with the costumes and colors of Thailand. Rich designs and brilliant colors bring a certain charm to them. If you want to create a little envy in your circle of friends? Let them know who the REAL goddess is with
Mekkala .. The Goddess of Lightning
circa 1930-1980's''''

Thai jewelry pieces were produced and many times were purchased by service people to send to their loved ones. . Called "Niello" or "Nielloware", this jewelry is created by carving a design in the Sterling Silver. Hand wrought each piece would have their sections carved and then filled with a sulfur/metals powder, and baked. Most pieces are silver and one other color. THis brooch is gold over sterling with many colors of baked enamel. This is signed on the back Sterling Siam.
These Goddesses were characters in an ancient epic legend called Ramayana.

Gareth Pugh’s March show in Paris Brings GOTH back!

NEWSFLASH>>>>This man is on fire: Gareth Pugh - Britain's newest star designer

He's dressed Kylie and Marilyn Manson. He's been compared to Leigh Bowery, Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood. He's famous for having made a poodle suit with condoms for ears – and, until 18 months ago, hadn't sold a stitch of clothing. No one is sure what Gareth Pugh is. But all agree that this designer is hot. Susannah Frankel reports

Goth has been around for decades, having spun out of the punk movement in the Seventies and reaching a high in the Nineties with Marilyn Manson and movies such as “Bram Stoker’s Dracula” and “Interview with the Vampire.” But that macabre vibe is gaining traction once again, and not just in fashion circles. Nobody needs to point out the phenomenal success of Stephenie Meyer’s vampire-themed “Twilight” series —

Which is why pieces like this...........

show up on places like Etsy you can only be drawn into the mystic of these most bizarre accessories. When Pugh's first started, he created a little black dress with cellophane-fringed shoulders that appeared like wings and adding to that oversized illuminated coat that glowed with sparkles of light ( wired inside). Most famously, Pugh designed a catsuit created to mimic the silhouette of a giant poodle, straight out of the dog-grooming parlour. Its ears were made out of condoms.

Ok... condoms are a bit farfetched but then again the victorian made jewelry and accessories out of TEETH so who am I to talk!?

Strange and bizarre to some is simply normal to many

"I think Gareth is interesting because people don't quite understand what he's doing," confirms Jefferson Hack, publisher of Dazed & Confused –

CREEPY creatures you pin to your clothes?

The Goth movement, with bizarre black clothes, creepy spiders and strange creatures has caused many to take a second glance. Many say WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? When you think about it and take a peek back in time at the 19th century aesthetic movement, you can get a better of idea of how all this might have gotten started. Maybe Goth IS the new aesthetic movement? Maybe it is the sincerest form of flattery to replicate an era or style and to add your own personal touch to it?

IN the early 19th century, “fads” were taking place in a way that would soon create trends that people would talk about for years. The aesthetic movement, of whom Darwin was a very important part of, was full of shock and horror and intrigue and it drew people ( especially women) by the droves. He had theories that were “out there” to most, concerning evolution and nature . Bringing attention to new botanical discoveries, he created popular and a very UNUSUAL interests in the natural world.

The first interest or “fad”, was the incorporation of these bizarre creatures into personal accessories.

LIVE beetles on my dress you say?? Oh no!! not me… but then it happened and the fad dictated you wear these enameled and jeweled pieces and to cringe and revel in the glory of the compliments you received when wearing these living insects on your dress. Some typical aesthetic jewelry items were jeweled butterflies, gold houseflies, enameled beetles, silver monkeys, and of course the living “pet“ beetle that came with his very own jeweled color and leash . I have to say Victorians has no reservations about using body parts of animals or insects. Squeamish? Well they weren’t and they used some of the most bizarre parts. A brooch made from a grouse foot (a game bird) or a whole hummingbird head taxidermied and set into gold or silver. Teeth? Oh yes! They wore it all. When you see designers who use these creatures, you can go all the way down the line from coro to Boucher and see their artistic take on insects and birds. Newer artisan are also using the ”shock “ value of animal jewelry in necklaces, bracelets, earrings and rings. Be it Goth or aesthetic or your own personal taste, these pieces are very enamoring and certainly quite the conversation starters!
